| Anyone have ankle tattoo? |
Question:
The FAQ for tatoos states that anything done around the bone areas can
be more painful. I am contemplating getting a tat right above the ankle.
Anyone else have an ankle tat? How about the pain!
Answer: -My first tattoo is about an inch above my ankle. I had it placed that
high so that it would be visible when I'm wearing "running" socks with my
tennies. I don't know if placing it that high helped it to hurt less or
not.
Most of it didn't hurt any worse than the tattoo I've gotten on my arm,
but there were several spots where the pain got rather sharp. Not enough
to cry or anything, but I'm sure I was making some interesting faces.
One thing I did that might help, I planned my tattoo so that it could be
done in two parts, with the first part being the smallest. That way, if
it was just "too much", I figured I could tough it out and I'd have
something that looked complete, instead of half-assed. The first part
is a hummingbird about 1.5" square, the second part is a flowered vine
that goes all the way around my ankle. There was an unplanned third part
also - having it all redone by an artist who knows something about
porportion and shading.
-I have an ankle tattoo as well. Its two cobras face to face with the sun
in the background and full color. Its tails goes all the way around the
ankle, and the main body of the tat is on the outside ankle right above
the bone and its about the size of a
1.44 3 1/2" diskett. It was also the most painfull tat I have so far. I
even passed out about halfway through it but I had the job finnished in
one sitting. It feelt like my ankle was getting sawed off. It took about
5-6 hours to get done and its a great job. I also have a tat of a pegasus
on my left arm in full color, about 8 hours worth and covers my entire
upper arm. This one on my arm was nothing compared to the ankle tat. The
one on my back was my first tat and was also done in one sitting. When I
decide to get my other ankle done I am going to get waisted but good. That
is if the artist lets me. I love both of my tattoos and yes its addicting.
It seems for me that art work around the bone areas just hurt a lot more
but it sure is worth it and would gladly do it again and I am no
Masochist.
-Well I only have two tattoos so I don't have much to compare. I have one
that's about 4" high, with the bottom just above that little knobby bone
on the ankle. The other is a leg band about mid calf. I found the ankle
tat hurt less, of course this could be because the band took about twice
as long to do. My ankle one took about an hour and I didn't notice the
pain too much, except for about the bottom 1/2" of the tattoo. That part
felt like someone was taking an exacto (sp) knife to my leg, the rest
felt more like a burning sensation.
-I have a tribal fairy sitting on my ankle bone, most of the tattoo is
above the bone but the fairy's behind is on the ankle and part of her wing
is on the soft tissue between the ankle bone and the achilles tendon. It
is my only tattoo so I cannot compare the pain to anything else. It
hurts, yeah, but not nearly what I had built myself up to expect. At
times (especially with the single needle) the pain brought a tear to my
eye (it would feel, for a second or two, like the skin was being cut out
with a razor blade) but throughout the whole thing I was amazed at how
much the body protects itself, endorphins can be your friend.
It's really too bad all people feel pain differently and have varying
levels of tolerence because one person's pain is another's pleasure...
