Question:
I have four piercings (eyebrow, ear, nipple and PA) plus a Celtic armband, all done at Tribal Body Art.
After turning up at work last Friday with the (then new) eyebrow, my boss said
"Well I suppose it's better than a tattoo, at least you can remove it..." My
best reply was, "Well actually I have a tattoo as well"
Discussion followed as to how he (my boss) would like me to remove said
eyebrow ring... he lost, on the grounds that I'm sorta needed by his only
paying customer at the moment. Sure, may be a problem when that contract
runs out and the company is overstaffed....
Anyway, rambled off topic then.
So, I am looking for good put-downs to lay on un-pierced and untattooed
people when they decide to completely insult me. The best one I heard so far
was "Oh, I don't like that" said by a fat middle aged woman, who was a total
stranger.. "Well I don't like your face but at least I'm polite about it!"
So, question, best response to "Oh, I don't like that"?
Answer:
- I ever said "They're there to give you guys a job..." as I went through a
metal detector in a US airport.... wrong answer. It took me about two hours
to clear customs, and after all that, it wasn't the piercings that set the
damn thing off but my belt buckle, it's just the hand scanners they use
picked up the nipple and the PA and hence it was a trip into the
back-room...
No, I don't have a problem explaining them, or my tattoo, I have them
because I like them. I just get really fed up of people -usually strangers-
saying "Oh, I don't like that" as if I don't have any feelings. I mean,
would you walk up to someone who was fat and say "Your ugly"?
Everybody has their own likes and dislikes, and one of the things about
people who have body art is that they feel that the way they like, it is
probably much less important to us. I mean, there are tattoos that I don't
like, or rather, I would not have myself, and I dare say that other people
don't like what I have, but I honestly don't see a tattoo and think "Yeuch".
I just get really annoyed when other people, especially unpierced, untattood
people seem to think that I really want to know or care about their opinion.
I am more likely to pay attention to someone if they say "I don't think xxx
would suit you" if they are actually pierced or something.
Anyway, I'll shut up, it's the sort of people who aren't pierced and have
their minds closed to these sorts of things that I should be moaning at. Bad
day at work and all that.....
On the more positive side, this NG is really a group of great people, I've
not seen a single flame yet which makes a change!
- I'm sure you'll get lots of useful replies to your
question. I find that as a taxidriver most of the comments on my tattoos
are complimentary bad ones I just tend to ignore and maybe the fare goes up
a little.
