| Looking for advice on healing a new sleeve |
Question:
The tattoo is a apanese dragon with lots of cover (isobars and clouds) going from
shoulder to wrist. I want to be able to do everything in my power for
this tattoo to heal well, I don't want to repeat mistakes I made in
the past.
So what I'm looking for is some advice from people who have healed
sleeves or other large work. While I've healed tattoos before, I've
never had work done on this scale before.
I've read that some people have kept their work covered through the
night. And I am considering wearing a clean long sleeved shirt for the
first couple of nights, to avoid destroying the sheets. The only thing
I am worried about is having the shirt stick to the tattoo, I guess I
could always remove the shirt with some water in the shower.
The first session is probably going to be a long one, as we are hoping
to get all the outlining and some of the black work done. I am willing
to go as long as the artist is willing to go. I wonder if it would be
a good idea to have a couple of days away from work? I'm not sure how
much flexibility I will have in the first couple of days. I would
think trying to keep my arm immobile would be the best bet.
Shoud I try and keep it covered or uncovered for the first week or so?
I would think I should keep it uncovered and moist. No bandages or
anything like that.
I could ask many questions I'm sure. I have talked to my artists,
but I would still like the opinion of people who have larger tattoos.
So any advice, tips, tricks, and/or pit falls to avoid would be great.
Answer: This is what I've been doing for my sleeve. I haven't stuck to sheets or
had any problems. But you're body is probably different from mine, so
listen to it instead of me. If there is a bandage on after the tattooing is done, leave it on for a few
hours. Then wash your arm. Apply lotion. Repeat when ever your tattoo
feels dry or tight. If you expose it to the sun, put on sunscreen
beforehand.
