| De-lurk, and a question. (Names in Tattoos?) |
Question:
Here is my questions: what do you think of incorporating names into
tattoos? Does anyone have this done, and if so what's the reaction been? Thanks for any input!
Answer: -Don't hate me because I'm on AOL. It's cheap.
Anyway, I've been reading RAB for a few months now. The concept of
bodyart and its psychological/spiritual conotations has always interested
me. I don't have any work yet, but hopefully will be getting a first ink
soon, after losing a bit of weight.
On to the question: I've been looking high and low for a special tattoo
design, and finally (yesterday) set down and designed one myself. It's
not finished yet, but it its current state it is a curling maple-ish leaf,
with the spaces between the veins filled in by names, words (like 'faith'
and 'hope'), and filigree-looking flower designs. I'm hoping for a very
delicate, stained-glass effect, sort of. My fiancee' says it's drawn
well, but the idea of having name tattoos has always bothered him.
Ordinarily I wouldn't think of having name tats, but these are names of
family members and religious figures, and the whole design is very, very
significant to me.
So, I was wondering; what do y'all think of incorporating names into
tattoos? Does anyone have this done, and if so what's the reaction been?
I like this design a LOT, and while I may have to think a lot about
placement, I'm sure I will be getting it someday. I'm just doing an
opinion poll, sort of.
-I've always said no names except your kids. SO's and spouses come and go.
Other than that go for it. All my art is custom, no flash for my skin. If
you design or describe to the artist It's yours.
- Well my mom will always be my mom and the same with my sis. But
personnally I would never get the typical 'heart with MUM on the
ribbon'. And If I got my sisters name everyone would thimk I was a
HillBilly(tm). My wife and I decided along time ago that we wouldn't
get each others names tattooed. So you could say I am kind of against
names, a tattoo should be forever, not just 'till you break up. ;)~
But then when I had my son I was _estatic_ about dedicating a piece to
him, but I know I want more kids. So I didn't want to play favorites
and have a sleeved left calf for my first child and then a little 2x2
piece for my 2nd. So I had his foot prints done on my chest with his
initials undernieth. It came out *awsome!*. I love the piece and show
it to everyone. I am very proud of it and I think my boy will be too.
Actually, speaking of names, I am thinking of my next tattoo bieng my
Family Crest, or shield as it is called. Probobly 2&1/2 by 4 in. on my
right forearm. I have a strong family background.
