| infected tattoo? |
Question:
i got a new tattoo recently (4 days ago) and i'm experiencing something i've never
experienced with my other tattoos before. first of all, it's getting
sorer and the skin around the letters is getting more red / purple. then
the skin isn't peeling off like i used to. it's looking more like
regular wound scabs (thick, hard and big scabs). there's no puss coming
out but i think it's infected. i'm taking care of it like i always do.
what i need to know is if it is really infected and what should i do
about it? and can a infection ruin the outcome of the tattoo? any input would be very appreciated.
Answer: - Ok, when I got tattoo'd on the top of my foot it was right on the junction
and the scabs I had were thicker. Maybe because of the tender area?
Contrarywise, my boyfriend, at the time, got a tattoo on his chest and his
scabs were even thicker, didn't heal and he lost a lot of ink. Perhaps you
should talk to your tattoo artist and show him the scabs. He's seen a lot
more tattoos in various stages of healing than I and could better assess
your situation.
- It doesn't sound infected at all. What is your regular aftercare
treatment (is it peeeee?)?
What it sounds like is the area around the tattoo is bruised, which
makes sense since you had it placed in a delicate area that is covered
with relatively thin skin. Does it hurt? Is it oozy and yucky? I'd keep
an eye on it, but it doesn't sound all that unusual.
- Pretty much sounds like the artist hit it a touch hard, possibly bruised it.
if you are running an excessive fever ( a slight one is normal during
healing) or if the notice the redness moving further around your wrist or up
you arm then I would worry about infection.
but from what you say here it sounds fairly normal, the wrist is a thin
tissue area of the body it tends to take dammge a bit differently, bruising
and heavier scabbing really shouldn;t be too much of a concern.
relaxe and take a bit of extra care witht he lotion it helps heal in the
"flex" areas with less loss of pigment.
- Sounds a lot like what happened with my single tattoo, also on the inside of
my wrist. Just take care of it, and don't pick at it. Should come out
fine.
