Question:
i'm looking for information on the workings and maintenance of tattoo guns,
anybody know and please tell me?
Answer: - " Better you should call your momma a whore than to call the sacred
instrument used to apply tattoos a gun"
-yes I know this will probably reopen the arguments on Guns vrs Machines
but I prefer they be called machines.
Basic workings.
A tattoo machine is a metal frame which has a couple electromagnetic coils that
are powered by a supply unit that runs between 9 and 30 VDC. When the coils are
energized they create an electromagnetic field which drives the armature bar
down causing the circuit to break thus allowing the electromagnetic field to
collapse. A spring then pulls the armature bar back up completing the circuit
once again. And so on
Maintenance:
Keep it clean in tune rebuild or recapaciter it as needed. Springs need to be
checked for wear and replaced as needed. Also the machine should be built and
or adjusted to suit the particular power supply being used in order to comply
with the volt/amp profile of a given power supply.
This is not something that can just be explained, a good apprenticeship program
will teach you all of this or you can spend hundreds of hours learning it
yourself hands on.
