Question:
I am a paramedic, and my g/f is an EMT. She will be testing for her
gold patch in a couple of months.
We are going to both get 'Star of Life' tatoos next week. She wants a
plain blue star with a brown staff and white snake, with a sinus rythm
superimposed over the top of it.
Thanks alot, and could you please e-mail me your responses, as well as
post them to the group? My online time has been sporadic at best,
lately...
Here is the problem. She has the design drawn out, but she also wants
to put some kind of lettering or motto underneath it, prefereably in
Latin. I have an Italian flag on my shoulder with the word 'Italiana'
under it, and she thinks it is a neat idea. I have wracked my brain,
and not been able to come up with any phrase suitable for her. I do
not like the idea of the word 'lifesaver' or anything like that, but
do you guys (AND gals, lol) have any ideas? Also, if you could give me
the English AND Latin translations, that would help, as my Latin is
VERY poor. lol
If you could ALSO give me some addresses for pictures of the Star? I
have not quite decided what I want mine to be yet, but I do not want
just a plain, traditional Star.....looking for ideas...
Answer:
-I'm picturing you 20 years from now, with a bad back, burnt out,
despising EMS, girlfriend long ago run off with the lawyer who sued
you into poverty, and that damn tattoo staring back at you in the
mirror....
(Hopefully you're just trolling for idle amusement. If so, I
congratulate you on the most original troll I've seen here in a long
time.)
-howabout buying a nice peice of jewelry and forgetting that tattoo...you
will be branded a woo-woo and EMS junkie if you get ink done
-You think I am trolling? Whatever.....I was only asking for a few
ideas from some other PROFESSIONALS who happen to work in the same
field as I do. Just becuase I choose to display my pride in my career
choice by adding it to my body in a permanent fashion does NOT mean I
will ever wish for it to be removed.
I have a friend who is a paramedic who tells me I am an idiot for
doing this. He says I should get a cadusa(sp?) like HIM. THAT way, if
I ever decide to get out of EMS and into another area of the medical
field, I will not be forever branded as a medic.
As for your idle, unfounded assumptions about my girlfriend, that had
NOTHING to do with the idea of getting a Star of Life tattoo. I
planned on doing that for a couple of years before the oppotunity and
the desire came together. We are NOT getting 'matching' tattoos, nor
are we going to tattoo our names on each other or anything childish as
that. We are simply going on vacation, and since we BOTH had decided a
LONG time ago to do this exact thing, doing it together simply made
sense. I have no intention of trolling ANYone, and the only reason I
can find for you to insult my intelligence, career, conversational
topics, or personal decorative choices is that you yourself have
nothing better to do than try to make someone else feel bad, in the
hopes that it will make you feel/seem to be better yourself.
Well, I for one, am PROUD of the fact that I have started my career in
the medical field in EMS. I think it is a MUCH better learning
environment than some places. In any event, I DO plan on going to
medical school someday, and I will STILL be porud of the fact that I
put in my time in the back of a truck on the streets. My body may be
abused by the job, and I may end up crippled or dead from the stress
of the field, but I will ALWAYS be proud to call myself a medic.
I apologize if my original post seemed flippant or out-of-line, but I
was under the impression that this forum was a place for EMS
professionals and those interested in the field to congregate to
discuss subject matter of their choosing, hopefully guided by the
forum title. I feel as if my question DOES show particular relevance
to the field, as I know several people in EMS who have done the same.
I was merely looking for opinions on what might be unique, funny, or
otherwise interesting.
That said....does anyone have any ideas for a phrase to be placed
under a tattoo of the Star of Life, preferably in Latin?
Thank you for your patience.....
