| Trek tattoos?? |
Question:
Does anyone actually have a trek or scifi related tattoo? I was
thinking of what it would be like to explain to my grandkids(if any)
30 or 40 years from now what the heck the United Federation of Planets
was.....
Answer: - I expect that many people in this newsgroup might be quite offended by your
implication that Star Trek does not have a deep meaning to them.
I, for one, have followed Star Trek not so much for the sci-fi behind it
(although I do enjoy that), but rather for the comment that its stories make
on our society & political beliefs - scratch Star Trek beneath the skin and
you'll often find a much deeper meaning.
- It wasn't meant to offend. It was meant to point out a common mistake that
people make when they get a tattoo. I'm sure there's somebody, somewhere,
who's got their *(ABBA, REO Speedwagon, Wings, Cosby Show, Family Ties,
etc. --- you pick one)* tattoo, and they wish they didn't have it,
because they got it for the wrong reasons.
All I am saying is that a tattoo is something permanent. People shouldn't
take that decision lightly, no matter what tattoo they're getting.
- The stupidest thing a person could do is get a tattoo that is linked to
something in contemporary popular culture (like band names/symbols, t.v.
show stuff, etc.).
The best tattoo is something timeless that has a deep meaning to the person
getting it. It is a permanent mark on your body after all (except for
people who can afford expensive laser surgery to get it removed).
I am getting a tattoo as soon as I have the money for it. It's
going to be eight Ancient Egyptian gods in a band around my upper arm.
I'll most likely get Atum (a little bigger than the rest and in the
middle), Khons, Maat, Montu, Isis, Horus, Seth, and Bes (on the inside of
my arm, near my armpit). I'm also thinking about adding two more gods
(Osiris and Thoth).
