| Cape Town Highlanders at Edinburgh Military Tattoo |
Question:
Just been watching the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Marvellous line-up of
bands including the Capetown Highlanders - 13 bands in all. But lots of
other class performers too including Switzerland's "Top Secret" drummers,
famous for their dexterity, the Watoto choldren's choir from Kampala, and an
amazingly agile group of Kung Fu exponents from China. Countries
represented included, Australia, Chile, China, Nepal, New Zealand,
Switzerland, South Africa, Uganda, and host country, Scotland.

Answer: - I know that I shouldn't, but I do as well.
Is there a Merrington in the band? I know that he plays the bagpipes
and is in Cape Town, but I'm not sure if he belongs to a band - I'll
ask him when I see him next (I'm in Ottawa at the moment), but it would
be even better to know if he was there in advance!
- One of my very early memories is of my brother taking me to a
military tattoo. He was exceptionally fond of military music, which
was odd because he wasn't a military type person. Then my
husband was a bandsman and got to play in a tattoo or two. What
with my Salvation Army experience etc. I quite like military music.
- I certainly don't think you should feel guilty about liking military
music. It's so good, cheerful stuff with a pleasant melody and
great tempo and beat. That it has warlike connotations is hardly
its fault, though.
