| uk Significance of right ear lobe star tattoo? |
Question:
Does anyone can help me!
Asking about blue star tattoos on right earlobe. Also tattoos of swallows on
necks.
Met one guy when I was a barman years ago with both tattoos. Asked him about
the star on earlobe and he was evasive.
Saw another guy at a pub tonight with both same tattoos....
Swallow tattoo I'm expecting to be common, but star tattoo? does it have a uk
significance?
Both guys seemed older guys - maybe 60 now..... both seemed like they were
gang/wild when they were younger.
Any comments? I'm just curious....Thanks for any input!
Answer: -I could be wrong here, (And knowing me, probably am!!), but the blue
star was kinda old school stuff. You're right in thinking it was gang/club
stuff......
On par with the sailors and the anchors, and swallows on thier hands really!
And why other folk had the love/hate thing on thier knuckles.
-Back in the 50's & 60's a star on the earlobe was a sign that your had
served time in prison. One reason for them being blue was that they were
home-made and as such, often not enough ink went in for them to heal black.
Regarding the swallows on the neck, this was again popular in the 60's,
remember the Mod's and Rockers on Brighton beach? Swallows on the neck was
the choice of some of the Rockers 'greasers'
Sometimes I wish I'd never sold my Rocket Goldstar - but that's another
story.
