            New tattoo YAY!

Question:
last week I went and got my second tattoo and it was by far the best tattoo expirience I have ever had and I am so happy with the results. The artist was the nicest and most wonderful guy. It wasn't insanely expensive either. I just can't say anough good things about The Butterfly Tattoo Co. in New Haven, CT. I can't remember the artists name, and I tried to look on the website but the link for the New Haven studio doesn't work.

Answer:
- Speaking of tattoos. I've been seriously considering my first one(or a couple). The problem is I don't quite know where to put it. Its not a picture, but a latin phrase(anyone know an english to latin translator on the web?). We all know the term 'Deus Ex Machina', or 'God from the Machine'. Being a christian goth I am thinking of something along the lines of 'God in this machine'(the other tat I wouldn't mind getting would be a barcode reading my DOB and postal code of birthplace. So the question is, when people get tats of phrases where do they usually get them done?(I'm thinking along the upper back somewhere) - I just got my third tat two weeks ago, and it has a latin phrase in it--"Memento Mori." it's above a skull and it's on my lower back. Looks fabulous, but it hurt like hell. I really like the look of phrases being centered, like, as you said, on your back, but a friend just got "To thine own self be true" tattooed on her upper arm, and though I wasn't sure it would look good, it did turn out looking great. She got it on her arm so that she could always see it, as it's something she wants to remind herself to always do but I think upper back would look wonderful. The one thing to consider is the pain factor; places with less muscle and fat (such as the back) close to the surface of the skin hurt more than a tat on a meaty part of your bod, like the bicep or calf. And don't let anyone tell you it doesn't hurt--it does and it will. Some places hurt more than others, obviously--niether of my arm tattoo were anywhere near as painful as the one on my lower back, but the arm ones did hurt. My husband just got a Celtic knotwork armband done all the way around his arm, and while the outside didn't seem to bother him all that much, when the artist got to the underside of his arm, near the armpit, I could tell he was hurtin'. This is not meant in any way to discourage you-- if tats were mind-wrenchingly painful, no one would ever get them done, but on the same token, it sucks when loads of people tell you something won't hurt, and you expect it not to, and you're not prepared for it when you do get it done. - THe pain factor depends on the person. Really. I've six tats total so far- and the ones that *I* thought would hurt the worst, barely caused any pain at all. Those would be my bat on the back of my neck, and my exclamation bolts on the inside of my arms. The bolts I thought would really hurt because hey, thats some tender meat there... THe only thing that made my neck hurt was having my chin rest on my chest. The one that caused me the most pain, was the one I thought would be a cake walk. the very minute he started- my leg was twitching. I'm not gonna say that Tattoo's don't hurt either... I CAN say though, 2 outta my six hardly hurt at all.
