| Foot Tattoos.... |
Question:
I wanted to get a tattoo on my foot... first I
wanted it on my toe... but a local tattoo artist said that I shouldn't
because it will look like the tattoo but through a bunch of layers of onion
skin... so I gave up with the idea of getting the tattoo on my toe... but
then i found a cute place on the top of my foot that is about half way up
the foot above my big toe... and i've been stuck on that idea and for now,
am planning to actually get the tattoo this summer... my question is... i
heard that a tattoo on the top of the foot will end up looking blurry and
crappy because your feet constantly are bending and moving... however, i
don't think the part of the foot i am thinking of tattooing moves too
much... any suggestion??
Answer: - I disagree, to a point.
Areas likely to 'fade" or "wear" or "patina" if you will are those
closest to the toes and closest to the sole of the foot (along the
sides) where the skin DOES take a lot of wear.
I have a tattoo that covers my foot, short of the toes.
Where it gets close to the toes or the sole, it's weathered looking.
Where it is on TOP of my foot, the color looks splendid. This tattoo is
about 8 years old or something. The thin skin on top of the foot is
terrific for tattooing, and holds color very well.. assuming it heals
reasonably well..
The difficulty in HEALING a foot tattoo is why many artists shun work on
feet. We know it's probably going to come back in needing a touchup.
Unless a person can go almost exclusively barefoot and do little walking
for a few days, healing work on the foot is SO hard to do.
To the original poster, inquiring: Healing a tattoo on the foot is
difficult and receiving a tattoo on the foot is painful.
- I have a tattoo in just about the spot you are describing. It has been there
2 years, and there has been no blurring, bleeding or fading at all. Here is
a pic, although not the best since it was Photoshopped....

I promise, however, that it looks as good as the day it was done.
- It's not just because of the bending and moving, it's also the rubbing of
shoes, and the fact that the tissue in the area regenerates very quickly,
therefore you are sloughing off skin all the time, making your tattoo look
faded and old. I have one on my toe that I've already had touched up twice,
and it's about 3 years old, and it look old and faded. No matter where on
the foot you put it, it's going to look old and faded after a while.
