| Magical Tattoos |
Question:
my sister looking for some ideas for magical tattoos. So far, she have limited them to
abilities that only affect the tattooed character. For example, a tattoo that
when touched will cure critical wound 1 time a day or a tattoo that when touched
would allow the character to go invisible for 3 turns one time a week. My
players want more magical tattoo functions. Maybe something like a tattoo that
would summon a large cat for 15 rounds one time a week. Any ideas would be
appreciated. If she get enough input, she will compile it and make it available to
everyone.
Answer: - I remember having read a short story by Larry Niven a long time ago (I think
the title was similar to "What good is a glass dagger?") in which there was
a wizard with a magical tatoo which held a guardian demon or something. The
story was pretty good and I actually borrowed the idea for my campaign at
that time. The collection in which it appeared is called "The Flight of the
Horse". I guess it's out of print today.
- 1.tattoo of the thief:this tattoo when touched up to 3x a day creat a magical
set of lock picks
2. tattoo of protection: when activated it gives the tattooee ((is that a word
lol)) +1 protection as ring, with a max of +3 for multiple tattoos. Avariable
of this could be protection in a 5' radius, but the tat is very large.duration
varies.
3. tattoo of the warrior: this tat is of a weapon of some sort. When activated
the weapon expands to normal size and is usable for 1 turn every 24 hours.
4. tattoos of protection: these are arcane symbols that are the equivilent of
various protection spells. These only activate when the spell they are attuned
to is used against the wearer.
5. tattoo familiar: This combines the tattoo spell, find familiarand
permanence. the tat itself is of the familiar and upon mental command the mage
may summon the familiar at will. The mage still gains the familiars special
abilities as normal.
Those are just a few ideas I have recorded over the years and I even created
a kit of shamenistic mages who record their spells in the form af tattoos.
- this is sort of different, but I created a spell called "Wizard's Tattoo".
It's kind of like a Wizard Mark -- a magical symbol that is invisible to most. The
Wizard's Tattoo, when applied to the skin of a recipient, is invisible to all --
except the wizard who created it, the person bearing the tattoo, and anyone else
with the identical tattoo. It would be very useful for members of a secret
brotherhood (like the Holy Slayers of Al-Qadim) -- they could all have the same
symbol tattooed to their skin and readily identify each other without worrying
about being caught or found out. The tattoo can be detected by a detect magic
spell, and can be erased with an erase spell.
- If you didn't already get the idea from this source, check out Rifts
World Book: Atlantis from Palladium. It's chock full of stuff on
"Tattoo Magic". The mechanics are just as you described: touch the
tatoo, activate the power. Tattoo powers range from summoning weapons
and creatures to spell-like abilities such as healing, increased
strength, lightning; all sorts o' stuff. While Rifts has some different
mechanics, Atlantis should give you all the ideas you need.
