| Dragon Tattoo, question??? |
Question:
I am looking for the perfect dragon as a tattoo to go around my lower right
leg. I'd prefer something of the Chineese type of design (long and
serpentine) so as to be proportionate all around the leg. Can anyone
direct me in the direction of some good art? Thanks for any input!
Answer: - if you can get a hold of a few back issues of _tattoo_ magazine (what an
original name), they have a lot of dragon flash art if my memory
serves me correctly. most tattoo parlors have a ton of old issues laying
around... And Dancing Dragon catalogs if yecan find them, have TONs of
chinese dwagin pics in, just most are copyrighted, so you'd prolly have
to have minor adjustments to the original design...
- As a longtime tattoo fan, and an aspiring tattooist, I think I can speak
with some authority in directing you to artwork. Of course, the first
part is pretty basic--if you're looking for Chinese dragon designs, what
better place to look than a book of Chinese art? Second, there is a lot
(and I mean a *lot*) of flash art out there that already involves Chinese
dragons. Check out the local tattoo shops; they should have portfolios
of work that they've done, as well as some back issues of magazines and
such. If you're into that sort of thing, I know that a lot of
prepackaged flash from Huck Spaulding & Co feature Oriental designs, and
most tattooist are bound to have at least a couple sheets of the stuff
kicking around the studio. And there are lots and lots of books at the
local library, unless people have gotten into the habit of swiping all
the cool ones--like in California. Finally, there is a newsgroup devoted
solely to tattooing, piercing, and various degrees of bodmod, at
rec.arts.bodyarts or somesuch; if you ask around there, somebody may be
able to direct you to a good art site on the Net. Oh, and that's another
possibility, too; search for Oriental Dragons, or Oriental martial arts
pages; I've noticed that a lot of martial arts centers have a dragon
design in their logo. Anyway, that's probably enough leads for now;
