            Tattoo dream

Question:
Here is my tattoo dream: I'm at a party wearing a slinky strapless dress. I see myself having a great time. I held my head high and smiled a lot. I see myself to a different part of the room and I focus on my back. I see two tattoos on my back. The one my right shoulder (which I do have) is the Evening Star. The one on the left shoulder (which I do not have) is a Celtic dragon in the shape of a figure "8" and eating it's tail. The image of this second tattoo filled my vision and has burned itself in my mind. I wake up. If I close my eyes I can still see the tattoo very clearly. I don't - under any circumstances - wear anything without a collar and sleeves. I don't normally go to big parties, being fairly shy.

Answer:
-I dream of tattoos when the dream relates to primal urges. I've heard that the limbic human brain is reptilian. That means that our rawest, most primal urges come from dinosaurs? (which I also seem to dream of when the dream relates to those deep, raw things). Your dream relates to a past-life experience. In a way, we live out our past lives in our present life. If life was like an onion, and your first life was the center, and your last life was the surface, you could say that all of your past lives are bubbling up thoughts, feelings, and emotions to the surface of your present life. In order to be more specific than that, I'd need the rest of your dream. The dragon is generally symbolic of the 'enemy' which is darkness, the opposite of self-realization. If I had to just throw a guess out onto the table, I'd say that you think that you need to be 'cool', or that there is some state or manner of being that you want to accomplish. I say that because tattoos are en vogue, and in the dream you appear to be very cosmopolitan, very chic, and confident but you say that you're a shy girl. -Subconsciously revealing the 'dragon' inside of you, eh? There are many different interpretations of the dragon symbol, depending on the cultural background of the dreamer. Celtic dragons could represent the 'old ways' of religious beliefs, a manifestation of the power of nature. Your dream could be showing you a desire to explore further these belief systems, and allowing them to unleash your 'dragon' potential you normally keep hidden inside. -My cultural background is a bit splotchy - I'm black - more of Afro and Native American Heritage. My parents were ther first in their generations to get college degrees. My father, being an English, History and Social Studies teacher, let me read anything I could get my hands on. The fact that it's a celtic dragon doesn't really surprise me. I love all things celtic. The Dragon is a symbol to me - the embodiment of a majestic, magical, fierce guardian. This guardian protects delicate richs and priceless treasures. -The dragon swallowing it's tail is an ancient symbol of healing!!! The 8 could actually be a lemniscate (on end and not on it's side), a symbol of eternity, unendingness. It is a great thing to see in dreams, IMHO. Since you don't "expose" yourself in real life, could it mean that "exposing" yourself to others could be a healing experince for you? In a sense of maybe sharing what you really think and/or feel with others?
