| Need Blue Star Tattoo information |
Question:
Recently a high school principal sent out a letter with an updated blue
star tattoo theme (it was a batman tattoo this time). This upsets me
because it will cause undue concern by many parents. I'm going to go to
Lexus in a minute to hunt up some info on this, but does anyone else have
some resources that they can share with me?
Found about 10 or 12 good stories debunking this. Still looking for more
though, because Elementary principals (at least the ones I know) will not
admit that they made a mistake without a ton of proof.
Answer: - On the other hand....
My Division secretary is an infamous (to my mind) UL vector - her
habit is to send a mass emailing of the latest urgent bulletin to
our entire organization. Her most recent atrocity was the Blue Star
tattoo story. Not only did she email everyone, but several days
later, after I told her that this, like her $250 cookie story,
Craig Shergold story, and countless other stories, was an urban
legend, she stuck a message about Blue Star on our division bulletin
board, with all the Very Important sections highlighted in various
attractive colors. My response to this was to print out the AFU
faq and stick this up next to the blue star memo,
highlighting (in attractive colors, of course) the section on
Reefer Madness. Ha! I thought, now I will stamp out urban legend
gullibility throughout Night Vision Lab! Instead, it seems that
everyone who read the Blue Star memo, and then the AFU FAQ, ended
up saying "well, this may be an urban legend, but that doesn't mean
that this *can't* happen, and it behooves us, as concerned parents,
to be well informed because our children's lives may be in danger."
My conclusion is that parents want to be unduly concerned, whether
they need to be or not.
