| Do you have a tattoo? If yes, why? |
Question:
i have a tattoo of a red rose on my right hip/back. i got it about a year
and a half ago. people always seem surprised when they see it, and every time someone asks,
i've forgotten it's there...i hardly ever see it because it's behind
me...and few other people see it because unless i bend over or am wearing a bathing
suit, it's covered up (that was strategically planned). i'm not the "type"
to get a tattoo. i dress conservatively, etc... but i wanted one for 2 years before i got it...ironically i was scared of
the pain. i got the guts to get it because a coworker when i worked in the
psych hospital had 4 of them...and he said it wasn't that bad...i did it on my day
off and they all took bets on whether or not i'd do it.
i was scared to death the day i had it done, but the tattoo guy was super
nice...he kept asking if i was ok. the outline was the worst part.
i love my tattoo, but i'm not really sure why i wanted it so much. my
mother hates it of course...she freaked when she saw it. that was kind of fun
does anyone else have one? if so, what of, where and why'd you get it?
Answer: - on my left arm i have 3 kanji symbols...one meaning man, one meaning heart,
mind, spirit and one meaning good luck.
i'd wanted a chinese symbol ever since i saw a picture of one of my
favourite authors (martin miller...check out "lux the poet", "milk, sulphate
and alby starvation" and "ruby and the stone-age diet") sporting one. the
symbols are all very relevant to things that are important:
male - it's about accepting that's what i am in terms of needs, sexuality
and society. spirit - because that's what's at the centre of me...what i am...we all
learn how to take care of our flesh and bone, but i was never taught to even
acknowledge myself beyond the body. good luck - not so much a charm to attract it, but a reminder that i create
my own through taking risks and using the "try=live" equation.
at the top of my right arm i have a plain black ring/cirlce.
this is a kind of anti-co-dependancy or anti-neediness symbol. the circle is
me...i can and must be a complete circle in myself. all too often people see
themselves as incomplete and try to use someone else's incomplete circle to
complete each other. this does not work for me. i also have a thing for
geometrical shapes in design...they are bold, striking and their symmetry
creates patterns that are instantly appealing to our brains.
beneath that i have a row of 5 black stars. again i like the shapes, but this was a kind of marking of my visit to the
states...a right of passage, if you like. the stars have a dual
function...they are a kind of representation of the stars from the u.s. flag
(states), but the blag star is also a symbol commonly used as a symbol of
anarchy...more an ideal i support.
