Question:
I obtained the phone number and the adress of "perfection tattoo"
in Austin. But it was not possible for me to get an appointment.
They told me that I had to come personaly and pay 30 $ cash
before recceiving an appointment. General: No appointment through
telephone!
It seems to be easier to by a gun, than to get a tattoo!
My question: That's normal in the USA?
Answer: - perfection is a very popular tattoo shop, and they get enough business
(and chris is usually booked 2-4 weeks in advance) that they don't
want to hold spots for people who won't show up. i paid a $40
deposit to make an appt there, after i visited the shop. they
don't accept credit cards, unfortunately, so you do have to go in
person. but, as lani says, you probably want to meet the artist
and see some of his work for yourself before you make an appt anyway.
after i went home (i live a couple of hours' drive from austin) i
decided i wanted another appt for a visiting friend. it was for
the next day and they didn't make me pay another deposit. if i went
in there more often i feel quite sure they would not make me pay a
deposit; once they know you the rule does seem to relax, as lani said.
they are pretty nice there, and i suggest going in and meeting them if
it is at all possible.
- Not all shops operate in this way. Consider it a consultation fee for the
advice from the professional you chose to tattoo you.
A lot of shops take *walk-ins* and most will make appointments over the
phone. If you wish to have a particular artist do your work, then you must
play by his/her rules...
- Each store has different policies. Many stores have been "burned" by
people who make appointments and never show up (they get chicken
and/or change their mind). These policies are usually relaxed for
regular customers that the artists know are reliable--but not for the
first-time customer. Some shops take credit cards, in which case you
can secure an appointment with your credit card number.
I suggest you go into the shop anyway--unless the shop/artist is very
famous and you are very familiar with their work, you don't want to go
and get a tattoo from an artist sight unseen (YOU should check out
their shop, too).
