| Arizona Tattoo Show... |
Question:
This week, I worked my first convention . I was nervous as hell,
but had a great time once the show got under way. We had an art gallery that
was a huge hit...everyone loved the art. I even sold a huuuuge digital
print that I was displaying. Paolo, the owner, ended up with numerous
first, second, third place trophies in almost every category. He walked
away with Best of the day for Saturday, and best of show. I did a
pretty big black and grey piece (9 shours to tattoo it) on Saturday that
ended up taking 2nd place for the 'skulls and bones' category. I now
have a little trophy to display. (Yay me) The guy who won had a HUGE
sleeve of beautiful work...He deserved it. I just wanted to
place...I had no idea I'd do so well. I'll post a pic of that once I
get some...I'll take those today. On Sunday, I ended up tattooing my
wife. It's a coverup of one of my early tattoos, and in the picture
it's showing through a lot, but we're going to be pouding a bunch of
small sessions of ink over the old tattoo and it'll fade out more
eventually. This is a piece that I'l doing in sessions because there is
a huge amount of texture in it. The first session is laying down a base
set of colors, then I'll add textures and more variations in colors in
the future sessions...You can see at that link:

Answer: Oh, I forgot to mention that every artist in our shop won at least 1
award. It was a pretty strong showing. Unfortunately, I think it
pissed a lot of the other artists off. I think some people even bitched
that we 'cheated' because we came prepared and did all large pieces that
were booked ahead of time...I have no idea how to even respond to that.
